The flowers are blooming and the birds are chirping, and everything outside feels fresh and new. Spring is the perfect time to bring that feeling indoors and refresh your space with a little spring cleaning and organization. Because you spend at least one-third of your life on your mattress, your bedroom is the most used room in your house! A little spring cleaning in your bedroom can go a long way to help you sleep better each night.

When your sleeping space is clean and organized, you can feel more relaxed and sleep more restfully. Here are some tips for freshening up your bedroom this spring!

Colors Can Affect Your Sleep

Did you know that colors can influence our mood? This makes selecting a color for our spaces so important when it comes to creating a relaxing atmosphere. So, what is the most relaxing color for a bedroom? Blue is a calming and soothing color, and orange has a tendency to stimulate relaxation. It’s important to consider shades of colors when making your selection. Lighter paint colors on walls can make your space feel more open, while darker colors make the room feel more intimate and cozy. If you’re not ready to take on the challenge of repainting your bedroom, try adding pops of relaxing colors throughout your decor. A new duvet cover or piece of art can freshen up your room and give it new life.

Benefits of a Clean Room

Does a clean room help you sleep better? The simple answer is yes. Your bedroom shouldn’t cause stress, and clutter is known to affect your ability to focus, affects your sleep as well as your anxiety levels and mental well-being. Make sure everything in your room has a proper place, and don’t forget to dust your shelves and vacuum for clean air flow. Eliminate clutter and keep everything accessible to eliminate that early morning frantic rush. Your bedroom should be your retreat from the stress of your everyday life, and keeping it organized will help you relax when it’s time to go to bed.

Sleep Hygiene

This Spring is the perfect time for a bedding refresh. Good sleep habits (also referred to as sleep hygiene) often rely on creating a comfortable environment. That means updating your bedding, pillow, and sometimes even a new bed.

It’s easy to forget that one of the most important aspects of getting good sleep is also the simplest: your bed. If your bed is not comfortable, you can toss and turn all night, having trouble falling asleep, and wake up with a stiff neck and an aching back.

If you’re looking to replace your sheets, pillows, or even your mattress, we recomend Luma Sleep products. These natural sleep products will help keep you comfortable and well-supported for many nights to come.

Time to Buy a New Pillow?

If you’re sleeping on a flat or lumpy, older pillow, you’re not doing yourself any favors. It’s time to update your pillow.

You should replace your pillow every 12 to 18 months, unless it’s a memory foam pillow which often lasts up to three years. if you’re still sleeping on a pillow that’s 5+ years old, it’s really time to replace it. Surprisingly, people go years without swapping their pillow out. This  means your neck and shoulders don’t get proper support which can create discomfort and pain, not to mention sleeplessness.

Update your Bed Linens

Clean sheets and pillowcases make all the difference too! Just how often do you need to change your bed sheets? Washing and changing your sheets should be done on weekly basis to help remove dead skin cells, dust mites, sweat, and other substances that may impact the quality of your air and to prevent skin related issues.

It’s also smart to invest in good quality sheets to help with airflow to keep you cool. Check your sheets, do they use synthetic fibers? Synthetics can sometimes trap heat. That means you sleep hotter, which makes for more uncomfortable sleep. You may find yourself tossing and turning a lot more.

Look for good cotton sheets, especially in a soft sateen finish, which can help. Natural bamboo fibers are also good. And if you naturally sleep hot or are experiencing hot flashes or night sweats, try moisture-wicking sheets.

You may even want to change your sheets seasonally with lighter fabrics for this spring and summer.

Replace Your Mattress

If your mattress hasn’t been replaced in the last 7 years, it’s time to think about getting a new one.

There are some obvious telltale signs it’s time for a mattress upgrade such as sagging or lumpiness. Other times, it may not be because the mattress is worn out or old, but simply because it’s uncomfortable and you wake up stiff and sore.

Many people take a mattress home only to find after a few weeks that it’s too stiff or doesn’t actually provide the support you need. If this is the case, and you’re not ready to invest in a new mattress, try a pillow topper. For many, they can extend the life of their mattress.

Our advice, make sure when shopping for a mattress, you choose one with the proper support for both you and your partner to make sure you can rest well each night.
