Some people may not be a candidate for WatchPAT and another respiratory device may be used at home instead. We will always help you choose and provide you with the most effective in home sleep test available based on your needs. Because we are a medical practice and sleep center, owned and staffed by physicians (not just a sleep testing company), we are able to help you choose the right device for your particular situation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions about our at-home testing? We have answers!
Q: Is At Home Sleep Apnea Testing Effective?
A: Many scientifically validated studies have demonstrated that at home sleep apnea testing is as effective as an in lab test for most people using the high quality medical device you’ll receive. You can learn more about the testing that has been conducted here.
Q: How Long Does The Test Take?
A: Everyone sleeps differently and for different amounts of time. You simply put your device on and go to sleep, the device will capture all of the data we need while you are sleeping. It will be registering your sleep and awake cycles along with many other data points that will lead to a comprehensive diagnosis.
Q: How is WatchPAT Different From Other Sleep Apnea Testing Devices?
A: While you sleep the WatchPAT is collecting critical sleep data by measuring more information than many traditional respiratory sleep tests including your heart rate, oximetry, snoring, PAT signal, actigraphy, and more. The best part is, you only need to wear a comfortable watch-like device on your wrist and one finger. Just slip it on and go to sleep. WatchPAT will do the rest.
When you wake up in the morning, you easily send your data to us using your smartphone. There is no testing device to return and your doctor receives your information instantly. Before breakfast, your test is done, and you are on with the rest of your day. Our board-certified sleep physicians will take it from there. We’ll schedule your follow-up appointment, and through an easy telemedicine appointment in your home, we will help you understand your results and what to do next.
Q: How do I know if you’re covered by my insurance?
A: Our OSAinHome comprehensive sleep apnea program is both plan compliant and insurance-friendly. Many insurance providers require an in-home sleep test before covering any further sleep testing, such as a sleep study at a sleep center. For many it’s the first step you’ll need to take if you suspect you’re experiencing sleep issues. Our team is standing by to answer any specific insurance questions you have or to contact your insurance company on your behalf. Simply ask when you call.
Q: I’m on Medicare. Am I covered?
A: Yes, you are covered, but Medicare has a few extra rules for your treatment to follow. We’ll be sure to guide you all along the way to make sure that you get the treatment and care you need.
Q: Is this going to be expensive?
A: If you’re uninsured or thinking about out-of-pocket costs, that’s completely understandable. When you call us, simply ask about the options. If you’re uninsured, we have a cash pay price which includes your test and your follow-up telemedicine appointment with a Licensed Practitioner or Certified Sleep Doctor. Simply inform us that you’d like to participate in our cash pay program.
If you have insurance, and would like to use your insurance policy to pay, someone on our team can do the leg work for you to find out what your costs would be if you decide to move forward with a test.
While there is a cost to sleep apnea testing and treatment, it is relatively inexpensive, especially when you contrast it with the alternative. If you DON’T treat sleep apnea, the cost could be much higher, due to an increased risk of stroke, heart attack, and other diseases. Keep in mind that anyone with untreated moderate or severe obstructive sleep apnea has marked increased mortality (likelihood to die) as high as 40% over 12-15 years. By comparison, treating sleep apnea is relatively inexpensive.
Q: Where’s the checkout? Why can’t I just place an order for this right here, online?
A: Since this sleep test is one that requires a prescription, we just have to speak with you in a brief screening process to ensure that you’re a good candidate. Getting a prescription also helps your test to qualify for insurance coverage if preferred over the cash pay price.
I’m not 100% sure yet if I want to get treated. I’m really just at the beginning of the process and I’m curious to know if I have sleep apnea or not. That’s all.
Of course it will be your decision whether to proceed with any treatment that is offered. However, at least you will know where you stand on the sleep apnea question. You’ll have more clarity once you know if you have it or not, and once you know how severe it is. At no point will you be pressured o into taking treatment that you don’t want. You’re free to choose.
Q: Is this a sleep test or a sleep study?
A: In the sleep industry, we don’t use the terms “sleep test” and “sleep study” interchangeably. A sleep STUDY is one where you actually come into a sleep lab and sleep overnight at our facility, under observation from our medical staff. WatchPAT is a sleep test. A sleep test is a good place to start, and it’s all most people need. If you have a more severe condition or something other than sleep apnea, our Licensed Practitioners will discuss your specific needs with you during your telemedicine appointment and can help you schedule a sleep study with a sleep lab if needed.
Q: What if I’m a long way from your office?
A: No worries! We offer telemedicine appointments and remote follow up. Our patients have found it to be a convenient, valuable process.
If you live at a distance from one of our medical centers and your testing indicates you need further testing due to other potentially serious conditions, such as narcolepsy that would require a sleep study, we will refer you to a sleep lab and will work with that sleep lab to review the results and discuss the results with you.
Q: I’ve done a sleep test in the past. Should I get another one?
A: If you had an in-home sleep test in the past, but it gave you inconclusive results, or you didn’t seek treatment at the time you should definitely consider getting tested again. Here’s why, your sleep condition may have gotten worse. Testing technology has also improved. With our state-of-the-art WatchPAT system, you’ll get a more accurate look at what your symptoms are saying, and that’s critical to your long term health.
Q: Can I call on behalf of my loved one?
A: If you’re the partner of someone with sleep apnea, we don’t blame you for being motivated to call us on the patient’s behalf. It’s one of the most caring things you can do. However, in order to proceed with testing, diagnosis, and treatment, we will need the patient’s consent. So if you call or schedule an appointment, please just be sure to have the patient nearby so that they can come on the line.
If you suspect your loved one has an undiagnosed sleep condition, but they aren’t interested in taking any steps to treat it, that’s very common. There are a lot of understandable fears that come with treating any new condition. Our team is ready and waiting to answer any questions your loved one may have to reassure them or answer their questions. It’ll be better for both of you if the decision to pursue a diagnosis is coming from your loved one’s own choice and inner motivation.
